This is the most difficult time of year to teach! My seniors are done in a week, the rest of the school is testing, the classrooms are filled with substitutes and I need to keep my students engaged so that I don't have any discipline issues! So what did I do? I started painting on shoes, old backpacks, bags...anything to capture the interest of my students. It worked! I got the whole school wanting their shoes painted! Painted shoes are the fashion craze in this country now. It is all over Instagram. Next week I will post more about the project.
I am an art educator and a professional artist. I write this blog to guide my students in (SEL) social, emotional, and academic development. S.E.L. is the District of Columbia Public School's priority because we believe that we must educate the whole child.
