Goodbye To Marla..

Our 'donut' good bye party for Marla

We said goodbye to our beloved Marla this morning. She is moving to California.

I am sitting here in front of my computer trying to come up with the perfect words to describe Marla. The first word that comes to my head is "STRONG", then words like talented, creative, goal oriented, hard working, lovable and independent follow. Marla is a survivor. She has more common sense and inner strength that I had at twice her age! She is only 17 years old, has a job as a cashier, pays her own bills, has her own apartment and gets herself to school every day. School starts at 7:30 but Marla arrives in my classroom at 6:45 EVERY DAY so she could paint. Art flows from her creative brain so naturally. I have only 2 students (out of 290 a day) who paint from their own imagination, not from Google images; Marla and Kenson.
Marla, I love you! It has been my pleasure and honor to be your AP Art teacher last year and this school year.  I promise to stay in touch with you and I wish you all the happiness in the world. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. If you ever make it back to Florida, always know that you have a home in the art room at Ely. It is going to be sad for all of us to see your empty chair first period. :(
All the best to you Marla. Ms. B.
