Problems Teens Face Today

Hello, Tigers! I am sorry that I missed a day writing to you. As you know, I just started graduate school and I needed to get caught up In my studies. Just a few minutes ago I read a few articles about the challenges teens face today. The articles left me with the feeling of great compassion and sorrow for teens today.

You guys face issues that didn't even exist way back when I was a teen. Problems like cyberbullying, internet & electronic addictions, internet porn, social media pressure, widespread obesity, synthetic drug addictions. That is not to mention the pressures young girls have to compete with the way woman are depicted in movies, reality TV and online. Your generations' view of how I woman should look and act is completely different than any generation before you.

What I am about to say to you might sound shocking but when I was in high school, I did not know ONE female friend of mine that had sex during her high school years. All my friends (me included) where virgins. Trust me, I was popular and I had many, many friends in school. My classmates chose me for the Homecoming Queen contest my senior year. My graduating class was about 700 students. However, none of us had the pressure that all of you have concerning sex. It was more popular to be a virgin. Things have changed!

For my next few blogs, I want to address a few of these topics and give you my opinion and advice as to how you can deal with some of the pressures that you face today in school. Hopefully, I will be able to encourage you a little or if nothing else cause you to think about where you stand on some of these issues.

I am still working on that watercolor of the bird of paradise, but I am bouncing all over the place with painting, school, exercise and writing. This is a typical trait of an artistic person! I will write more tomorrow evening. Take care everyone. Love, Ms. B.
